There are some myths about Virtual Storage Access Method (VSAM) performance that have been around since its introduction. A common belief is that reorganizing a VSAM Key Sequenced Data Set (KSDS) to rid it of completed CI and CA splits will improve performance and reclaim DASD space. This belief is the reason for many reorganizations, but the reorganizations themselves often do not improve performance.
