The enterprise, once mostly centralized and proprietary, is now distributed and open. The Open Enterprise Environment (OEE) model may retain mainframe-based MVS, but also brings in UNIX, Windows or OS/2. Despite the changes, good systems management is still essential. This is more difficult in an open enterprise, since there are more elements that must be managed and integrated.
