There are now a multitude of choices about where to place a TN3270 server on an IP-based network with a large installed base of SNA devices. The TN3270 server can now be placed on Windows NT, OS/2 or AIX within a network or on the S/390. Previously, there were really only two choices: put the server on the S/390 or put the server function on another platform, which was usually AIX, next to the S/390.
The difference was that in the first case the network between the TN3270 server and the client was completely IP and in the second case the communication between the S/390 and the server was SNA, ...
