Version 4 of IBM's DB2 supports a data sharing environment in which multiple DB2 subsystems read and update tables simultaneously. Data sharing is a major enhancement, but introduces new complexities in database recovery. It offers improved availability, scalability and flexibility, supporting a sysplex environment parallel processing; and Coupling Facility (CF) structures.
