The dominant programming model over the past 25 years has been the procedural model, which involves a programmer creating a single program that represents a set of business operations or instructions. The problem with this approach is that it can create large and inflexible programs that are difficult to employ. With the object-oriented or component programming model, programs are written in a modular unit categorized by function. In this manner, changes can be input in an efficient and timely manner.
