A discussion of how legacy systems can be integrated with the Internet by running SNA over IP is presented. The most important new technologies for integrating the protocols are Data Link Switching (DLSw) and Enterprise Extender (EE), each of which is discussed in detail with advantages and limitations noted. Choosing an SNA-over-IP solution involves careful accounting of both 'hard' and 'soft' costs, including ongoing personnel costs, and building an evaluation team that should include someone from the finance group.
