Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) software is expected to impact the exploding US business-to-business e-commerce sector. The technology, although not familiar to many users, organizes supply-chain management (SCM). Also discussed are the more established Material Requirements Planning (MRP) process, and whether ERP is a necessary tool for APS.

Business-to-business e-commerce is approaching hypergrowth in the U.S. market. As early adopters of e-commerce have concentrated on "sell-side" commerce, linkages designed to address "buy-side" commerce and business planning collaboration are rapidly taking shape. Certainly, the front-end Internet marketplace is driving a huge share of this growth, but the back-end planning and fulfillment technologies are catching up fast....
