IBM Takes Lead in Server Market Share.(Gartner Dataquest report)(Brief Article)

According to Gartner Dataquest, IBM Corp. has taken the lead in sales of enterprise servers, while Sun Microsystems Inc. and Dell Computer Corp. saw their marketshare erode in the second quarter of this year.

The numbers, which include servers running all operating systems, showed IBM gaining share in two key operating systems, Unix/ Linux and Windows NT/2000. IBM holds 21.2 percent of the market, up from 12 percent, in Onix/Linux servers. Sun holds the top spot with 43.9 percent. In Windows NT/ 2000, Compaq Computer Corp. leads with 25.6 percent, but IBM saw a 6.5 percent bump in its market share to 12 percent.
