SERVER REVENUES have dropped 30 percent overall in the past year. But IBM has managed to grow in market share in several segments, especially the all-important mainframe arena.
According to IDC's "Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker," IBM's mainframe revenue grew nearly 21 percent year-over-year for the third quarter. But sales of servers over $1 million dropped 27 percent year-over-year. The worldwide Unix server market saw a 19-percent shrinkage in revenue, compared to 2000.
