The 16th Annual Regional Phosphate Conference was held at Lakeland, Florida, on 18-19 October 2001. The US phosphate industry has endured a couple of tough years economically, and it is also aware that it does not enjoy the highest levels of public esteem. However, as this review by David Leyshon emphasizes, good progress is being made in addressing some of the most pressing environmental concerns.

Attendance was about 360, down from last year's 450, but still very large under current conditions.
