With the political conventions in full swing as this issue goes to press, there's an Orwellian chill in the air that dampens a writer's confidence in the verity and usefulness of language.
Here, one might observe, is an edition of American Theatre that's remarkably "inclusive," ranging over a wealth of subjects, disciplines, theatrical forms--a "big tent" issue, as it were. Moreover, it demonstrates an exhilarating "diversity of opinion," giving voice to folks (theatre architects, for example) you might not regularly hear from in these artsy pages. ...
