In Kansas City, Mo., the Standard Theatre opens its doors. The 1,100-seat house is initially dedicated to burlesque. In 1973 the venue, now called the Folly Theatre, is saved from the wrecking ball, and is the first theatre to be included on the National Register of Historic Places.
