The last time St. Louis Woman played Philadelphia, it was 1946, and the all-black musical was on its bumpy way to Broadway.
The show has a past as checkered as its characters' suits. First it was a novel, God Sends Sunday, whose author Arna Bontemps collaborated in 1937 with fellow Harlem Renaissance luminary Countee Cullen to turn his book into a play.
