"LAND AND LIBERTY!"--the rallying cry of Mexican revolutionary Emiliano Zapata--rings out across the footlights this month, with a little help from John Steinbeck. In the writer's hometown of Salinas, Calif., the 25-year-old Western Stage is launching the world premiere of Viva Zapata!, a dramatization of the 1952 Steinbeck-scripted movie, which starred a young Marlon Brando as the early 20th-century guerrilla.
