The American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Mass., has confirmed that Robert Brustein, the company's redoubtable artistic director, is stepping down after this season. Brustein has had a long and varied career in the theatre, coming to ART in 1980 from New Haven, where he established Yale Rep and was dean of the Yale School of Drama.
On top of his duties as ART's artistic director, Brustein directed 12 of the theatre's productions, wrote 11 ART adaptations and continued his gig as theatre critic for The New Republic. He is the author of 12 books on theatre and culture, as well as ...
