Albert Takazauckas, one of the San Francisco Bay Area's best-known directors of theatre and opera, died in August at the age of 56. Takazauckas was known for his eclectic work, directing everything from classic comedies such as Light Up the Sky to contemporary dramas like Sam Shepard's A Lie of the Mind. He directed the New York premiere of David Mamet's Sexual Perversity in Chicago and was a co-founder of the Allegro Theatre Company of San Francisco, dedicated to the production of classic musicals.
