The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation has been a leading supporter of performing arts in the San Francisco Bay Area since it opened its doors in 1966. During the year 2000, the Foundation awarded over $10 million in its performing arts program. Of the 200 arts organizations in its portfolio, 40 are theatres or theatre-related. The Foundation generally provides multiyear general operating support and views itself as a partner to the arts organizations it funds with the shared goal of advancing organizational health.
