If you expected to see Brecht staged the Brechtian way, you were sure to be challenged by Janos Szasz's adaptation of Mother Courage and Her Children at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge in February and March. For one thing, a major icon had vanished: Szasz replaced Anna Fierling's covered supply wagon with a train of baby carriages, emphasizing her maternal obligations (and creating the momentary impression that you might be having an Edward Bond hallucination).
