TheatreVirginia's new artistic director is Benny Sato Ambush, the first African American to head such a large arts organization in central Virginia. He is a former associate artistic director at San Francisco's American Conservatory Theater, producing director of Oakland Ensemble Theatre and co-artistic director of the San Francisco Bay Playwrights Festival. Ambush succeeds George Black, who is stepping down after serving eight years as TheatreVirginia's artistic director.
