After a yearlong search, the American Repertory Theatre of Cambridge, Mass., has made official its changing of the artistic guard. Robert Woodruff, one of America's premier avant-garde directors, will be stepping in as artistic director in August 2002. In the coming year, Woodruff will remain as ART's artistic director-designate with the assistance of departing artistic director Robert Brustein (who will stay connected to the institution as creative consultant, beginning in 2003).
