How do we develop new work in these new times? I hear frequent questions from new artistic leaders who wonder how and why play development programs are structured they way they are--and, indeed, whether these systems are optimally effective. Playwrights, too, are increasingly vocal on the subject: "Is a perceived decline in creative energy and loss of distinctiveness in writing the product of the uniformity of the development process?" one asked.
