AT NEW YORK CITY'S LINCOLN CENTER, in June 1999, the Human Rights Film Festival featured 10 short films condemning the harsh human toll exacted by landmines. Playwright Kia Corthron attended, and the impact of the films on her was immediate. "Whenever I write a play, I start with an issue, she says.
