Tisa Chang--who was born in China but schooled in the United States and studied acting with Uta Hagen--began her theatre career as an actor and dancer on and Off Broadway. She turned her attention to directing in 1973, establishing the Chinese Theatre Group at La Mama ETC. That led in turn to her formation in 1977 of Pan Asian Repertory Theatre, for which she continues to serve as artistic director.
