Frankie Hewitt, founder and producing artistic director of Ford's Theatre Society in Washington, D.C., died in February of cancer at the age of 71. Since 1965, Hewitt had propelled the revitalization of Ford's Theatre--where President Abraham Lincoln was shot in 1865--lobbying not only to restore the building to its 1860s grandeui but to keep it alive as a producing theatre as well as a museum.
