"To me, being an American is what being in the arts is all about." Jonathan Moscone, artistic director of the California Shakespeare Theater, didn't run for governor of California, as everyone else did. But he is stumping--for an audience of one--in his second-floor corner office with its cream-of-asparagus walls, on a hot and airless June day, in the industrial outskirts of Berkeley. "The arts represent what this country was founded on. It's the most inclusive community. It promotes and celebrates free speech, and accepts all voices."
