Throughout most of her youth, Wendy C. Goldberg was on track to become a tennis star. She was number one in her home state of Michigan. She considered entering the college tennis circuit. She even confesses to emulating some of the tennis stars of her day: "I grunted like Steffi Graf for effect," she says, laughing.
