Minneapolis: The Guthrie Theater's literary director Michael Bigelow Dixon had an idea. He wondered, "How can the theatre address the right to free speech beyond merely depicting how the government interferes with our private lives?" So Dixon hooked up with Jack Reuler, managing artistic director of Minneapolis's Mixed Blood Theatre Company, who agreed to make Dixon's idea happen. The resulting commissioned project, Bill of (W)Rights, which performs Feb. 20-March 7, gathers together a number of takes on the First Amendment by playwrights Janet Allard, Rebecca Gilman, Jeffrey Hatcher, Syl Jones, Thomas W. Jones II, Gavin Lawrence, Melanie Marnich, Kelly Stuart, Elizabeth Wong and the pseudonymous Jane Martin. These performances are timed to coincide with the 2004 U.S....
