LAS VEGAS, NEV.: The proverbial prostitute with a heart of gold gives the gods good reason to preserve humankind in Bertolt Brecht's The Good Person of Szechuan. But because, in Brecht's brutish world, the meek surely won't inherit the earth--let alone a bowl of rice--the heroine Shen Te adopts the persona of a ruthless male cousin, Shui Ta, to survive.
