I read with interest Wesley Williams's letter "Make Mine Movies" (Jan. '04). His thesis--that no one under 50 can afford to go to the theatre, so theatre is irrelevant to them--can be borne out by looking at the audience when we do go to the theatre, especially at New York's major subsidized houses. I have to flog an old horse: New York versus London (or Paris, for that matter, which has one of the most vital theatre scenes in the world).
