One of the strangest myths to emerge from Russia in the decade following the fall of the Wall was that of the death of Russian drama. You could hear it everywhere--in theatre foyers, on TV talk shows, during telephone conversations, at symposium speeches and in your sleep. Even stranger is that you can hear it still. But be forewarned: Anyone trying to sell that line about nobody writing anything of interest in Russia is peddling rotten goods.
