In the spring of 1995, I embarked on a series of audiotaped conversations on the art of acting (from a black perspective) with Douglas Turner Ward, co-founder and artistic director of the famed Negro Ensemble Company. They took place in Ward's corner office when the NEC was located on 46th Street on the fifth floor overlooking Broadway.
