Two theatre artists numbered among the eight individuals who received the National Medal of Arts from President George W. Bush in a November
ceremony in the Oval Office. The nation's highest honor for artistic excellence, administered by the National Endowment for the Arts, was bestowed upon opera composer and librettist Carlisle Floyd--whose decades-spanning work includes Susannah and Of Mice and Men--and choreographer Twyla Tharp, whose most recent accolade is a 2003 Tony for Broadway's Movin' Out.
