Director-choreographer GRACIELA DANIELE took a break from her tech rehearsals of Dessa Rose, the new Lynn Ahrens-Stephen Flaherty musical at Lincoln Center Theater. In June, she will direct and choreograph Chita Rivera Dances Through Life for the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
What do you always have with you when you work on a new show?
Hopefully, my brain. (A big laugh) I come from the world of choreography, so I don't use anything. I started as a dancer--I'm always on my feet. I don't like to sit when I direct. I don't have anything I carry.

An opera: Traviata. I was 12 years old. I fell in love. That's the reason I like dramatic musical...
