BETHESDA, MD.: You might not expect Little Red Riding Hood to be carrying gumbo in her basket. But Joan Cushing's new Petite Rouge, based on a picture book by Mike Artell, is the old tale's spicy Southern cousin. Running at Imagination Stage through April 3, this is the fourth children's musical the theatre has commissioned from composer/lyricist Cushing (pictured above; she's also known for her adult satirical revue Mrs. Foggybottom and Friends). The setting is the bayou during Mardi Gras; the protagonist, an adventurous duck with a Cajun accent; the villain, an alligator turned French chef.
