MILK INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS: It's a familiar dilemma: A son is afraid to tell his father he doesn't want to go into the family business. In this case, however, the profession happens to be popping out of a cuckoo-clock to mark the hours, and this father-and-son pair live inside the instrument of a kindly musician. They're the puppet protagonists of Portofino-Ballade, the touring creation of Swiss group Theatre en Gros et en Detail. The musician (Peter Rinderknecht), his double bass and its six-inch inhabitants will appear at Toronto's Harbourfront Centre as part of a program of all-ages entertainment sponsored annually by the Dairy Farmers of Canada.
