Kent Thompson's article "Operation Macbeth" (Feb. '05) doesn't give the Alabama Shakespeare Festival the credit it deserves for receiving a nationally competitive National Endowment for the Arts grant of $750,000. I'd like to set the record straight on how ASF was chosen to tour Macbeth to 13 military bases.

In late July 2002, a request for proposals was distributed by the NEA's partner in this initiative, Arts Midwest, to theatre companies regarding participation in Shakespeare in American Communities. Twenty-four companies responded, including ASF. In accordance with the panel process, Arts Midwest chose theatre companies for the program based on artistic excellence, ability to tour and educational outreach capabilities....
