SAN JOSE, CALIF., and NEW YORK CITY: From the department of "show and tell" come two new exhibitions that sing and tell. On view through April 17 at San Jose Repertory Theatre, where the rock musical Making Tracks sings its Asian-American heart out, is a historical display that mirrors the show's haunted subject: the Chinese railroad workers and nightclub dancers who were detained at Angel Island, the West Coast immigration processing center. Organized by the Chinese Historical Society of America, the exhibition gathers actual transcripts of the arduous interrogations Angel Island detainees endured, as well as photos and objects from the San Francisco Chinatown nightclub of the 1930s, where assimilation took the form of Chinese versions of Fred Astaire and Ginger...
