Westport Country Playhouse of Connecticut has tapped director and playwright Tazewell Thompson to succeed artistic director Joanne Woodward--who becomes artistic director emeritus at the close of the 2005 season. Thompson, who assumes his duties in January, has previously served as the artistic director of Syracuse Stage in New York and has directed stage and opera productions around the country, including The Old Settler at Westport in 2003. As a playwright, Thompson is best known for his widely performed Constant Star.
