"I AM A PLAYWRIGHT, NOT A THEOLOGIAN," TERRENCE MCNALLY ASSERTS, attempting to put the 1998 maelstrom that surrounded the New York premiere of his Corpus Christi in perspective. And though McNally is quick to insist that his new play, Crucifixion, has little in common with that controversial work, both dramas deal with questions of shared faith, personal responsibility and the conscience of communities reacting to a sacrificial killing.
