The special section in your Approaches to Theatre Training issue ("On Mentoring," Jan. '06) reaffirmed how fortunate I feel to consider myself a protege of Benny Sato Ambush, whom I assisted for two years at TheatreVirginia in Richmond. Benny took an early interest in my work as a director and cultivated my interest in one day becoming an artistic director. Working with him allowed me to really learn what it means to be an artistic leader, to represent something larger than yourself and your own body of work.
