Mary Zimmerman, DIRECTOR: As with all my adaptations, there was no script before we started rehearsals for Argonautika, and the set design had to be completed well before that point. The set had to be an open field of play, full of possibilities for scenes that were as yet unwritten. We knew we wanted the audience to feel as though it were on a ship, taking part in the adventure--that the theatre itself was the Argo.
