Barrie Stavis: 1906-2007.(IN MEMORIAM)(Obituary)

Twenty-nine years ago, I was approached in the lobby at Classic Stage Company and asked if I knew the work of Barrie Stavis. "Lamp at Midnight, Harpers Ferry ... sure," I said, remembering the plays, and that he'd been born in 1906. "He's not still alive, is he?"

"Very much so," came the reply. "He's right over there. He'd like to meet you." It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship that would last three decades. Barrie died on Feb. 2, 2007, at the remarkable age of 100.
