Pennsylvania Electric customers stay put, PP&L says.

Fuel Oil News, December, 1999

PP&L Inc. says that 96.5 percent of its customers have chosen to remain with the company in the wake of Pennsylvania's "electric choice" program. This represents the second-fewest defections among the state's seven regulated electric utilities. Allegheny Power Co. lost the fewest customers, at 1.9 percent, and PECO Energy had the state's highest loss rate, at 16 percent.

Overall, about 8.4 percent of the state's 5.3 million electric customers had switched to deregulated, alternative suppliers as of July 1, according to a state report. Pennsylvania's deregulation program, which began Jan. 1, allows customers to select the company that supplies electricity for them.
