GSW buys American Water Heater Co. (Dateline).(Brief Article)

Canadian water heater manufacturer GSW Inc., which markets the John Wood line of oil-fired and indirect water heaters, has purchased American Water Heater Co. of Johnson City, Tenn., from Southcorp., Ltd., an Australian winemaker. Southcorp. has now divested itself of all water heating companies, having earlier sold its Australian and Asian water heater businesses, which included the Rheem brand.

The acquisition of American Water Heater Co. makes GSW the third-largest water heater manufacturer in North America, The American Water Heater Co. employs 1,100 people and has a 500,000 sq. ft. plant in Johnson City that includes gas and electric manufacturing lines.
