"Mark Twain" was on hand at the annual National Assn. of Oil Heating Service Managers show in Hartford, Conn., to welcome conventioneers. He displayed some of his legendary humor by poking fun at industry awards dinners and the oil heating industry. At one point, he held up a copy of one of the industry publications, and in a mocking tone, said he had just finished reading it and it was "riveting!"

While this was happening, I was sitting next to the editor of that publication. When the man at the podium held up his magazine, the editor knew what to expect. I heard him whisper "Oh, no," to himself as he tried to slide down in his chair as if to avoid being seen.
