House committee passes energy bill.(NEWS AND TRENDS)(House Energy and Commerce Committee)(Brief Article)

On April 14, the House Energy and Commerce Committee passed its portions of the 2005 national energy policy bill by a vote of 39-16. The majority of the issues in the energy bill that are of interest to marketers come under the jurisdiction of this committee, so approval of this bill was a significant step forward.

The major issues involved in this bill for marketers are an ethanol/biodiesel mandate, the repeal of the oxygenate mandate, the MTBE safe harbor, a cap on the number of boutique fuels, reform of the federal UST program and permission to blend RFGs during the summer months.
