Fuel Oil News, September, 2005

Beginning on July 5, commercial vehicles in New York state that did not have a clearly displayed business name and a DOT number on both sides became subject to tickets and fines.

The New York State Department of Transportation issued new rules requiring businesses operating wholly within the state to display the company's name and DOT number on both sides of trucks with a GVWR of 18,001 pounds or more. The lettering for the company's name and DOT number must contrast sharply with the background color and be readable from 50 feet.

Commercial trucks with a GVWR between 10,00l and 18,000 pounds, as well as trucks with trailers that have a gross combination weight rating greater than 10,001 pounds, will be subject to the rule beginning on July 5, 2006.
