USGS gets new steward for data center. (Government Connection).(U.S. Geological Survey contracts with Science Applications International)

Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) landed a $154 million contract to operate the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation Systems (EROS) Data Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. The contract, which covers a five-year period, ranks among the largest contracts managed by the Department of the Interior.

As operator, SAIC will oversee archiving, processing and distribution of remote-sensing and earth-science date. SAIC also will design and develop information management systems for the data center and conduct related research as well as operate the center's computer and photographic libraries.
