Medical Device Technology, April, 2004

President Bush plans to increase the budget for the US Food and Drug Administration's medical device programme to US$216.7 million for 2005, an increase of almost US$26 million over 2004. These funds are designed to strengthen the medical device review process and help speed products to market.

FDA says they will allow it to meet all its performance goals specified in the Medical Device User Fee and Modernisation Act by 2008. The budget increase will be augmented by US$33.9 million in user fees from industry, an increase of US$2.3 million over 2004. www.fda.gov//bbs/topics/NEWS/2004/NEW01012.html
