Weyerhaeuser Co. announced last week that it will eliminate 750 staff positions, primarily through layoffs and attrition, at its corporate headquarters in Federal Way, Wash., over the next two years. The company employs about 2850 people at its headquarters. The impact will be felt chiefly in the areas of finance and information technology, according to wire reports.
The acquisition of Portland, Ore.-based Willamette Industries, completed earlier this year, is not driving the cuts, according to Paul Barnum, company spokesman.
